National Puppy Day Turns 8 Years Old On March 23rd!
National Puppy Day, celebrated each March 23rd, pays tribute to the unconditional love we each hold for puppies. But even more significantly, National Puppy Day was designed to help bring awareness to the horrors of puppy mills and the plight of orphaned puppies all over the world, as well as bring about a nation of puppy-free pet stores. Seems like that last goal is coming along nicely here in Los Angeles with Burbank joining LA recently in banning the retail sale of pets. Yay!!
According to Colleen Paige, Animal Behaviorist, Author and Founder of National Puppy Day, there are approximately 8-10,000 puppy mills in the United States. This number is so large because of the pet stores that sell puppies. No puppies sold in retails stores = no more puppy mills.
