An Outrage…Please Act!**

Dear Friends,

It has recently been brought to our attention that Mayor Villaraigosa has removed Commissioner Kathy Riordan from the Los Angeles Animal Services Commission.  This is the most unjust, irrational and vicious thing he has done to non-human animals in Los Angeles since he took office.

Professional Pet Sitters Week!! Woohooo!!

March 3rd - 9th, 2013

This week is Professional Pet Sitters Week!  Designated by Pet Sitters International, this unique event is celebrated annually each year during the first week of March…this year March 3rd - 9th.

Professional Pet Sitters Week brings recognition to the hard-working pet care professionals who give loving care to the world's companion animals when their owners are away from home.  This week recognizes the hard work and dedication of these professional caregivers that give quality care to their clients in rain, sleet, blistering sun and more!  In addition, this week was designed to make pet lovers aware of the advantages of in-home pet care and the viability of professional pet sitting as a career.

February Was Spay / Neuter Awareness Month…Oops!

So while I did tell you that February was Prevent a Litter Month, I neglected to tell you that it was also Spay/Neuter Awareness Month.  And it culminated February 26th on World Spay Day!

Like Prevent a Litter Month, Spay/Neuter Awareness month is designed to shine a spotlight on the importance of spaying/neutering dogs and cats to assist in curbing the gross overpopulation of animals in our city shelters and running the streets.  The Human Society of the United States (HSUS) and Humane Society International created World Spay Day as a way to save the lives of companion animals, feral cats and street dogs who might otherwise be put down in a shelter or killed on the street. 

Pregnancy, Babies & Pets - "I'm Pregnant, Now What?"

When my friend Karla Zelaya found herself pregnant, she was really worried about how "her boys" Bubba and Woody would react.  Bubba and Woody are Karla's eight year old Shih Tzus.  Before she got pregnant, the sun rose and set on her boys.  Adding a baby into the owner/pet dynamic can really wreck havoc upon that relationship.
