"Stu" Is Stunning!
UPDATE: ADOPTED 4/27/2014
The first thought that comes to mind when you see this dog is "Wow!" It's hard to believe that he was found as a stray on December 31, 2014 and he ended up at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter. Maybe the fireworks scared him. We'll never know but no one ever came looking for him.
Stu is a 2 year old, neutered male, brown brindle and white Boxer/Pit Bull Terrier mix. He weighs 64 pounds. Stu is described as a "great dog" by volunteers who have worked with him. He is a friendly, sweet dog who is easy to handle and walks well on-leash.
Gentleman "Zack"
UPDATE: ADOPTED 4/13/2014
Zack is one of the nicest dogs that you will ever meet. It's hard to imagine how he could become a stray with no one to look for him, but Zack was found on January 27, 2014 wandering the streets along. He was brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter where he patiently waits for a new home.
Zack is a fantastic dog! He is a 9 year old, neutered male, black and white Labrador Retriever mix. He is described by the volunteers who have spent with him as a "great dog." He is very gentle and polite, easy to handle on-leash and sits on command. He does not react to the other dogs while walking through the kennel. See Zack in action.

"Chloe" Needs A Special Home!!
UPDATE: AVAILABLE THRU MEADE CANINE RESCUE 805-239-4004
Chloe needs a very special home because she is BLIND! Dogs can adapt to their surroundings; Chloe will do that, but a shelter cage is not a home for this very special little dog.
Chloe is a 12 year old, spayed female, brown and black smooth-coated Chihuahua. She weighs 9 pounds. Chloe was found with her young friend as a stray on February 16, 2014 and brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter.
"Hefner" All Alone and Scared!
ID# A1454190
She's alone and so scared! Hefner was found as a stray on February 8, 2014 and brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter. She sits in her kennel and trembles as she listens to the sounds of the shelter and watches people that she doesn't know walk past her run.
Hefner is a 10 year old female black Labrador Retriever. She weighs 60 pounds. She is a beautiful dog with a shiny soft coat. She is, perhapss, a little overweight, but otherwise does not look her age.
"Baby," "Baby," A Very Special Dog
UPDATE: ADOPTED 3/25/14
It broke my heart to read Baby's story as written by his previous owner. Baby is a 1 year 3 month old, neutered male, gray Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He was returned to the shelter on February 20, 2014 after having been adopted as a pup. This is a story that repeats itself much too often.
Baby's breed is "unpopular" in the neighborhood where he lived and neighbors were not happy. apparently Baby was not secured in his yard and would run away from home. According to the owner, Baby was a great dog except for this one problem.
"Lady" You're My Lady!
ID# A1257018
Becoming a shelter dog was not in Lady's plans but her owner was hospitalized and unable to care for her. On January 9, 2014, she was brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter. Lady is a 6 year old, spayed female German Shepherd/Swiss Mountain Dog mix. She weighs 81 pounds.
Shelter life is hard for any dog and, as the days go by, their anxiety increases. Will I ever have a home again? This must be what our beautiful Lady wonders as people pass by her run.
"Sweet William" So Sweet!
UPDATE: ADOPTED 3/1/2014
He was found as a stray! Sweet William was found wandering the streets of West Los Angeles on February 11, 2014. He was picked up and brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter. Fortunately he did not get hit by a car or attached by another dog. No one ever bothered to come and look for this precious boy so that's their loss. Now he waits for some lucky person to find him, fall in love and give him the forever home he longs for.
"Quincy' Is a Survivor!
UPDATE: ADOPTED 3/29/2014
He had a thick chain with a lock on it when he was found as a stray on January 21, 2014. The staff at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter had to use bold cutters to removed the chain? Who could do such a thing to this wonderful dog? Life has not been kind to Quincy.
Quincy is a 1 year old Labrador Retriever/Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix who weighs 62 pounds. He is just a youngster, and as such, has lots of energy. Volunteers have commented that once taken into the yard where he had a chance to let out some of his energy, he calmed down quickly. He connected well with the volunteers, making eye contact with them. He is in need of basic training, but he is young, smart and will learn.
"Daisy" "Daisy"!
ID# A1452023
Daisy had a family for most of her young life and now, for no fault of her own, she finds herself at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter where she was surrendered on February 1, 2014. Daisy is an incredibly beautiful 1 year old, spayed German Shepherd/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. She weighs 89 pounds.
Daisy lived indoors for most of her life. Her previous owner described her as housebroken, okay in the car and said she pulls a little on-leash. She is described as people-friendly, good with cats but NOT with other dogs. She would be best as an only dog.
