"Fletcher" Is My Boy!
ID# A1445834
Fletcher has had a rough ride in life. He was found as a stray on January 3, 2014, and was brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter. He had a severe flea infestation with resulting skin irritation. He is a 3 year old, neutered Shih Tzu. He weighs 17 pounds.
Fletcher has been treated for his flea problem but he still has skin issues requiring weekly medicinal baths. He also appears to be blind in one eye. For a youngster like Fletcher, it's not fair that his life seems to have gone the wrong way. He wants desperately to have a home where he will be appreciated, loved and cared for.
Me and My "Shadow"

Shadow is one of the sweetest dogs that you will ever meet. She is a friendly and loving dog who has a calm personality and is very responsive to her person. She is strong but gentle and is fairly easy to handle and walk on-leash.

A Lovely, Gentle "Junebug"
ID# A1449660
She was lost, or maybe just abandoned and left to wander the streets of Los Angeles, when a caring person saw her and took pity on her. She made her comfortable for the night, commenting that she walked well on-leash and did not seem to react to dogs that she passed on the street. She was just grateful for a warm bed and a loving hand. She was brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter on January 24, 2014.
Stunning "Ginger"!!
UPDATE: ADOPTED 3/8/2014
How can you look at Ginger without going "Wow!" She is a beautiful 3 year old, spayed female, Chinese Shar-pei/Rottweiler mix. She weighs 47 pounds. She was found as a stray and brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter on December 27, 2013.
Ginger is a volunteer favorite. She walks well on-leash. She is a very people-friendly dog and enjoys engaging with everyone. Recently she met a couple in the yard and was super-sweet to them. She enjoys treats. She knows to Sit on command and extremely responsive to commands given to her. She is a smart dog who is eager to learn.
Miss "Maureen"
UPDATE: ADOPTED 2/10/2014
Hard to imagine that someone would not have come looking for this sweet girl but they did not. Maureen was found as a stray on January 14, 2014 and brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter. She is a 13 year old, spayed female, Doberman Pinscher mix. She weighs about 40 pounds.
Life in an animal shelter is difficult for any dog, but especially for an older dog like Maureen. She was very frightened in the beginning, but with the attention of volunteers and staff, she is learning to trust and to feel safe again. She is a lovely, sweet senior dog who loves human companionship. See Maureen in action.
Gentleman "Corduroy"
UPDATE: ADOPTED 2/21/2014
Corduroy is a very special dog! He was originally adopted as a companion for an elderly person, but this dog with energy and a joy of life needs a companion to share this "joie de vivre" with.
Corduroy is a 1 year old neutered Labrador Retriever/Queensland Heeler mix. He weighs 80 pounds.
Corduroy is an amazing dog who clearly has had some basic training. He is very well mannered. He walks well on-leash and knows the basic commands of Sit and Down; in fact, he sits before a person can even finish the command. He walks next to his person, constantly checking with them and paying attention to their instructions.
"Jock" Is One Handsome Dude!
UPDATE: ADOPTED 3/7/2014
Jock is a magnificent 1 1/2 year old Pit Bull Terrier who was found as a stray and has been at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter since September 1, 2014…a very long time for any dog!!
Living his life in a cage is incredibly hard for any dog, but especially for a young and energetic dog like Jock. He jumps up and down when people pass his run. He is saying, "Look at me, please looks at me!" But people just pass by and ignore him. It breaks his heart!
Jock is a high energy, strong dog and, in the play yard, he is in his element. He can run and play to his heart's content. Jock is treat-oriented and has a soft mouth. He knows the Sit command and, if given the chance, he will learn good manners. He wants to please!
Top "Banana"
UPDATE: ADOPTED 2/10/2014
Banana was first adopted as a pup into a family with another dog. She was happy and excited and, then one day, the other dog attached her over a treat, causing a wide gash in her neck. It wasn't her fault but she was returned to the shelter on December 21, 2013. Banana is a 1 1/2 year old, spayed female, tan and white American Staffordshire Terrier. She weighs 55 pounds.
The first few weeks at the shelter were very scary for Banana. She was timid, frightened and hid in the back of her run but, in the play yard, Banana forgot her fears and became a happy dog. She loves to run and romp around the yard, chase a ball and just enjoy life again.
"Kito" Says Let Me Tell You!!
UPDATE: ADOPTED 1/30/2014
Kito is a 3 year old, neutered male, brown smooth-coated Chihuahua/Dachshund mix who was adopted several years ago from the shelter, but on January 9, 2014, was returned by his owner because they were moving. He weighs 14 pounds.
He was part of a family for a short time so life in the shelter is hard, but Kito seems to be making the best of it. He is a very happy, playful little dog with big bright eyes and a shiny nose. He loves people and being able to snuggle in someone's lap. He is also fine with other dogs.
Kito has a lot of energy and he loves to run around the yard as free as a bird. He also plays a mean game of ball if someone is willing and he even brings the ball back. In the yard, he sniffs and bounces around with sheer joy, making anyone watching him laugh.
"Abby" Needs a Life!!
UPDATE: ADOPTED 2/10/2014
Black dogs have a tough time at the shelter. Whether it's a superstition or some other sill reason, black dogs are frequently overlooked. Abby is a 2 1/2 year old, spayed female Pit Bull Terrier. She weighs 56 pounds. She was found as a stray on September 25, 2013 and brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter.
Besides being a black dog, Abby tends to be very shy in the kennel. Outside of the kennel, she comes to life. She pulls a little on-leash and is an active dog, but she sits on command and wants to please.
Abby loves being in the yard and running around to her heart's content. She calms down very quickly after a run. Recently she was visited by a woman and an 11 year old child and she did very well. Video of that can be seen on the Shelter Me site.
