Hunter is available for adoption at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter"Hunter" A Great Friend For You!

Hunter thought that he had a home but they moved and he was left behind.  Hunter is a beautiful 6 year old, black and tan German Shepherd dog.  He weighs 72 pounds.  He was surrendered to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter on November 21, 2013.

Hunter is about as nice and mellow a dog you will ever meet.  He is very calm and sweet.  He walks well on-leash and is easy to handle.  He knows the Sit command and offers his paw.  He is affectionate and wants to be around people.  According to the previous owner, he is housebroken and is good in the car.

Winston was found as a stray on November 5, 2013 and brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter.  Hard to imagine that someone would not have come looking for this sweet dog with the soft brown eyes.

Winston is a 10 year old, neutered male, tan smooth-coated Chihuahua mix.  He weighs 13 pounds.  He stares out of his cage with the saddest eyes you will ever see.  He is not used to living in a cage.  Why didn't someone love him enough to look for him?  He is a little shy at first but warms up very quickly.  He likes to be touched.

You will never find a cuter dog than our Gracie all dressed up in her party dress.  Gracie is listed as 10 years old but may be younger.  She is an unaltered American Bulldog mix who was found as a stray on November 26, 2013 and was brought to the West Lost Angeles Animal Shelter.  Gracie weighs 38 pounds.

The shelter is a very scary place for any dog, but especially for a dog who is obviously part of a family.  Why they never came looking for her, we will never know.  Gracie is still a little bit shy but she is getting braver every day.  She is easy to walk and is very friendly and affectionate once she is out of her run and in a quieter environment.  She does not react to any of the other dogs who are barking at her as she walks through the kennel.

Zig Zag is a 4 year old male, gray and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier.  He weighs 68 pounds.

Zig Zag has been at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter since September 28, 2013.  He is a very mellow, easy-going dog.  He has a gentle disposition.  He is alert and responds to commands very quickly.  He is a very easy to handle and walks with his handler, always looking at the for instructions.

Buckles is a 4 year old, neutered male, brown and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier.  He has been at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter since September 27, 2013.

Buckles is a very sweet dog.  He was part of a family for most of his life.  He is a strong boy, who is lively at first but calms down for a few minutes.  He is described by the volunteers who have worked with him as "the perfect dog."  He is friendly and knows his commands.  Buckles is a big boy, weighing in at 92 pounds.

Sweetness should be her middle name!  Maddy is an 8 year old female, gray and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier who has been at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter since October 25, 2013.  She weighs 54 pounds.

Maddy has her favorite shelter volunteer who describes her as "super sweet and wonderful."  She is a dog who is very easy to handle, even when walking through the shelter with dogs barking at her.  She is extremely attentive and follows her volunteer friend everywhere she goes in the exercise yard.  She enjoys her treats and sits nicely.  She loves people and gets along will with both men and women.

Have you ever seen anything cuter than little, tiny Oliver?  Oliver is a 1 year old, neutered male, white and tan smooth-coated Chihuahua, who weighs all of 5 pounds.  He has been at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter since October 20, 2013.

The shelter can be a very scary place for any dog, but Oliver is a confident little guy who is sure that his new home is just around the corner.  He loves to be touched and held.  He is not much of a barker.  He loves to run around in the yard, perhaps feeling that sense of freedom that he longs for again.

Have you ever seen a cuter face?? Not only does Freddy have a face that will make you smile but he has the personality to go with it.  Freddy is a 3 year old male, black and white American Bulldog mix who was found as stray on October 14, 2013 and was brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter.  He weighs 60 pounds.

Freddy is a volunteer favorite.  He loves people and enjoys being petted.  His favorite volunteers describes him as a "super nice dog."  He walks well on-leash and is very attentive to his handler.

Max is a very special dog for many different reasons.  He is, without a doubt, one of the more handsome dogs that you will ever see and his smile will melt your heart.  Max is a 5 year old, neutered brown American Staffordshire/Australian Kelpie mix.  He weighs 57 points.  He was found as a stray and was brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter on August 17, 2013.  He has been at the shelter MUCH too long and he waits patiently for his forever home.

ChiChi is a 10 month old female, black and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier who was found as a stray and has been at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter since September 15, 2013.  She weighs 47 pounds.

ChiChi is a happy, tail-wagging pup who is eager to find her forever home and leave the shelter environment.  She is described as "very trainable" by a volunteer who has worked with her.  She is attentive and easy to handle.  She knows the Sit Command.  She has good leash manners and is very polite with a soft mouth.  She allows herself to be touched without reacting.  She is calm and curious about her environment.  She is a GREAT dog!

She was found as a stray on August 3, 2013.  She didn't mean to run away but maybe they left the gate open and she went exploring.  Her people never came for her so here she is at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter, waiting an hoping that someone sees her and wants her for their own.

Janeane is 6 year old, brown brindle Staffordshire Bull Terrier.  She weighs 71 pounds.  If you had to pick out one quality in Janeane that stands out, it would e that she loves people.  When you pass her kennel, you see her staring out or standing up against the door, just hoping that someone will see her and fall in love with her.

A shelter favorite!  That's our Luna!  Everyone who meets Luna falls in love with her instantly.  She loves people and gets along with children, according to the previous owner who surrendered her because they didn't have time for her.  Luna is a 1 year 8 month old, spayed female, blue and white American Bulldog mix.

Luna is 85 pounds of pure love.  She has an amazing personality.  She loves human attention, tummy rubs and her canine friends.  She doesn't have a mean bone in her body.  In her eagerness to play and run, she sometimes forgets her size and thinks that she's a lightweight.

Do you want friendly?  Do you want sweet?  Do you want smart?  Domino will give you all of that and much more.  Domino is a 3 year old male, black and white American Staffordshire Bull Terrier who was found as a stray on October 24, 2013 and is now at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter.  He weighs 48 pounds.

The first thing that you will notice about Domino is that he is super friendly and obedient.  He walks beautifully on-leash and sits when you stop.  He makes great eye contact and is very eager to please.

Life has not been easy for Ringo.  He is a dog of the streets and has been passed on by many homeless people.  They have loved him but have had to move on.  Ringo is a handsome 2 1/2 year old, neutered Staffordshire Bull Terrier.  He weighs 80 pounds.

His last owner was heartbroken when he had to relinquish Ringo, but the needs of his other dog Mandy, who was ill and aging, were a priority for him.  He wrote about Ringo, "I keep panicking because he isn't lying against me and I start to look for him but then I remember he isn't hearer anymore…then my heart aches."  He was surrendered to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter on November 6, 2013.

He is wearing his spats and he's ready to go out on the town.  Introducing our Mr. Nikey…he's quite a boy!  Nikey is a very handsome 8 year old, neutered male, brown brindle and white Boston Terrier and smooth-coated Chihuahua mix.  He weighs 17 pounds.

Nikey lived with a family for eight years so life in the shelter is no fun for him.  In spite of that, he is a very friendly dog who is easy to pick up.  He gets along with other dogs and shares kennel space with several dogs.  He enjoys being with people, including children.  He walks well on-leash.  A volunteer who spends time with him describes hims as a sweet, happy dog who appears to be in good health.

They started off as a pair!  Bonnie and Bentley, together forever!  Sadly, that would don't be their future. They were found together as starts on October 26, 2013.  They were best friends.  Both were older dogs, and Bentley is probably a little older than his stated 10 years.  The hope was always that they would be rescued or adopted together but that would not happen.  Bonnie was adopted on November 9, leaving her friend Bentley behind.

Bentley is a neutered German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix.  He weighs 86 pounds.  He is a sweet, gentle dog who was very bonded to, and depended on, he friend Bonnie.  He followed her around the yard and where she went, he followed.  He is an easy going, mild mannered dog who walks slowly but gets around.  He appears to be a little hard of hearing.  He has a lush coat which had not been brushed for a long time.

She's funny!  She's Silly!  She's playful!  She acts like a puppy!  She's sweet!  She's fun to be around!  She brings joy and laughter to anyone who sees her!  These are just some of the characteristics that can be used to describe this 30 pound little Trinket.

Trinket is a 3 year old, unaltered female, white and gray Staffordshire Bull Terrier.  She has been at the West Lost Angeles Animal Shelter since October 24, 2013.  The cage is a frightening place for her, as it is for most dogs.  It takes a little coaxing to get her out, but once out, she can hardly wait to get into the yard.  She walks pretty well on-leash considering her eagerness to get out and play.  In the yard, she runs and funs and a happy dog emerges.  Her exuberance and joy in the moment is endearing.

Echo looks so sad in the photo but, in reality, she is one of the happiest, most fun-loving dogs that you will ever meet.  Echo is 6 month old, unaltered female, black and white Labrador Retriever/American Pit Terrier mix.  She weighs 41 pounds.

Echo is a smart dog.  She is very engaged and focused on her person.  She is smart, a fast learner and eager to please.  She learned how to sit and go down in a very short time.  She is treat-motivated.  She respects her person's space and her behavior is not overwhelming.

Aurora came to shelter as a stray on July 14, 2013.  She was pregnant and gave birth to 11 puppies, all of whom have been adopted.  She was a good mom who loved her pups and good good care of them.  Life at the shelter has been anything but easy for this very special 1 1/2 year old little Chihuahua.  Her eyes reflect the fear that she feels in the noisy, scary environment that is the shelter.

Aurora weighs 22 pounds.  She has a beautiful, sleek and shiny tan coat and good teeth.  She even regained her girlish physique after giving birth to her pups.  She rarely barks, is good on-leash and loves to run free in the yard.  She gets along with other dogs and watches over her kennel mates like the good mom she was.

What expressive eyes and such a soulful expression on Henry's face!  This is not the life he was hoping for.  Henry has been at the West Los Angeles Shelter since September 17, 2013.  He is a 1 year old, unaltered male, tan and white American Pit Bull Terrier.  He weighs 59 pounds.

Henry has a very easy-going temperament.  He has been described as a gorgeous and goofy dog.  Henry can be a little jumpy and excited and will do better with a more experienced owner.  He is very obedient and resounds well to voice commands, but he will do best with a leader.  Because he is so eager to please, he will respond well to basic training.
